FLASH MOB: Dancing at Liverpool Street Station

Oh man, we love the flash mobs here at Dancing Videos blog. The look on unsuspecting passers-by faces! The fun had by all, surprised that their commute has been turned from boring to awesome! It’s great. This one was put on by T-Mobile, but commercial or not, it’s still pretty great.

FLASH MOB: Beyonce “Single Ladies” in Picadilly Square

Dancing Videos’ curatorial staff is giddy with the amount of flash mobs cropping up to perform public acts of dancing all over the Europe and elsewhere. As Pitchfork points out, this Flash Mob in Picadilly Square of Beyonce‘s “Single Ladies” (featured in our initial post), is promotional, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome.

Dancing ukulele man

I’ve been listening a whole lot to The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele lately. It’s almost spring, my heart is full, life is easy … and I’m feeling good.

One of my favorite songs on the album is “You Can’t Force a Dance Party,” which tells the story of a girl from New York who comes to visit a man in Mississippi. He throws her a dance party, but no one’s really feeling it. “You can’t force a dance party,” he tells her, “but for you I’ll try.”

I couldn’t find a video of “You Can’t Force a Dance Party,” but while I was looking, I found another Dent May video that fits the bill. It features a charming dance party that does not look as thought it has been forced in any way.

It’s spring. Love, and the sweet strains of a ukulele, are in the air.

Breakin’ Broom Dance by Turbo (eat your heart out, Dick Van Dyke and your chimney sweeps)

Now this is a broom dance!

I’ve never heard of the movie Breakin’ until my pal Matthew “Frisky High-Five” D$@!a sent me this video, but now I can’t wait to see the movie. Holy crap, this dance by Turbo is sweet.

To be honest, the title of this post is a bit rash and all for effect. I’m actually quite a great fan of the Mary Poppins, and attempted to write several ridiculous essays in college on the relationship between Mary Poppins and Aristotle’s Ethics (you don’t want to read them–probably pretty boring).

So Mary Poppins = pretty great anyway.

Mary Poppins + Lil Jon = Awesome

Paul Rudd’s “Sexy Dance”

Paul Rudd’s dance from a recent appearance on The Daily Show is making its spliced-from-interview way around the interwebs. Although it rates low on the dance achievement scale, it gets high points for bringing dance further into the popular non-dancing mainstream, as well as lending further credence to the sexiness of goofy guys willing to be silly in public.

Thanks, Paul Rudd, for the help.

Scrummage University Interpretive Dance Competition Video 2

When will this actually happen?

I missed the first one, and the second Intronatnl Union of Intrprtv Dance of Detroit competition was postponed and never rescheduled.

Trumbullplex, Scrummage, someone, anyone, please make this happen. Detroit needs it now more than ever.

Final note: I have watched this video more than any other video on YouTube.

Potato salad so good, you’ll flip

I don’t know what to say about this video. It takes something simple (a singing and dancing routine) and turns it into something remarkable (feats of physical contortion) and confounding (why are they in a barn? what is so inspiring about this potato salad that it causes you to celebrate it with death-defying acts of gymnastics?).

See for yourself. Pretty astounding. And making me hungry.

Come ‘N Ride that Train (choo-choo) and Other Assorted Sort of Sordid Happenings

Sometimes, searching and finding something amazingly silly can thrill the seeking YouTube surfer with a joy that surely Ponce de Leon would’ve felt had he found that elusive Fountain of Youth. Or perhaps it’s just a healthy injection of moms and grandmas hanging out karaoke-ing and dancing around foolishly that can provide a nice lift to anyone’s rough day or quarter-life crisis flare-ups.

Oh man. Have you noticed that every wedding DJ always plays “Old Time Rock n’ Roll”?

Seriously, I post these videos not to deride, but to take joy in the fun these ladies were having, dancing and singing along, hanging out. Seriously, I wish most of my Friday nights were half this fun.

If these three videos aren’t enough, there are still plenty more here.

Thank you, Coldwell Banker Gold Diggers.

Thank you.

FLASH MOB: Do-Re-Mi Dance in Antwerp Train Station

This video comes to our attention from Quixotic K blog. A flash mob converges upon what seems to be an Antwerp train station to perform a choreographed dance to Do-Re-Mi from The Sound of Music, remixed a bit with some dancey beats mid-song.

Yes, Quixotic K, this is perhaps why the internet was born.

Datarock – “Give It Up” and other Street Dance Fighting Videos

Norwaysians Datarock just released the first single, “Give It Up,” from the upcoming album Red.

I wish countries and nations would settle their problems with awesome dance-offs. The world would be a better place.

Take it from Michael Jackson. “Beat It” is still classic, and awesome. Somebody please find me that white, keyboard shirt on eBay. I’d pay tens and tens of dollars for it.

Finally, some street fighting salsa. This is ridiculous. But at least that mean jerk gets his comeuppance in the end (or in the front, I should say) for picking a dance fight with a girl.
